NCC Cybersecurity Student Event, Capture The Flag, a Success!

On June 25, 2025, the National Cybersecurity Consortium (NCC) held its first-ever Capture the Flag (CTF) competition made possible by Mastercard and powered by ENFOCOM Cyber. The hybrid event was held at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity in Banff, AB, with 25 participating teams made up of 78 students in total.

The teams were comprised of students from Canadian post-secondary institutions and competed for top-ranking places and prizes. Three Alberta-based High School teams participated in a non-competitive category, and kept up exceptionally well with the post-sescondary students in both skill and knowledge.

Teams made-up of two-to-four players were in a race to answer jeopardy-style questions in cybersecurity categories including: Cryptography, Web Security, Digital Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Binary Exploitation, Open-source Intelligence, and Miscellaneous.

Representatives from Mastercard, the title sponsor for the event, attended the event in Banff. They delivered impactful remarks to the students, impressing the importance of cybersecurity talent and expertise in Canada. They encouraged the students to pursue careers in cybersecurity, and expressed that there are jobs waiting upon graduation.
