YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant, Finance & Grant Support is accountable for performing a range of accounting and finance duties to support the NCC’s internal operations and granting activities.
Specific accountabilities include:
General Accounting and Reporting (Approx. 60%)
- Manage full cycle accounting, including accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR).
- Prepare and reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts on regular basis.
- Complete month, quarter and year-end close processes.
- Maintain and track prepaid expenses and related schedules.
- Prepare and file HST returns in compliance with Canadian tax regulations.
- Support external audit processes, including preparation of working papers and documentation.
- Provide support to prepare monthly financial reports.
- Prepare various preliminary financial reports and presentations for management, stakeholders, and external parties.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
Grants and Projects Financial Support (approx. 30%)
- Collaborate with the Projects team to monitor grant funding and expenditures.
- Review project-related claims and verify expenses to ensure compliance with project budgets, project milestones, and funding requirements.
- Communicate with NCC project team and project stakeholders to gather and verify documentation and resolve any financial queries.
- Support payment processing and distribution to grantees, in alignment with defined annual expenditure limits.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and presentations related to project performance and financial analysis.
Financial Analysis (approx. 10%)
- Support financial planning and forecasting by gathering financial data, organizing information, analyzing historical results, and developing models to make forecasts and projections related to planned and actual financials.
- Conduct financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Prepare financial models, analyze financial data, and provide insights to aid in strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and assess the financial performance of the NCC’s operations and projects to provide recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Support the annual budgeting process. Track actual performance against budgets, identify variances and provide recommendations to ensure budget compliance.
The position may be required to perform additional duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
WHAT YOU BRING
- An Undergraduate-level degree
- CPA designation or in process of completing CPA requirements
- 2-3 years of experience as an accountant or similar role, with a strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, concepts, and practices.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools (Excel).
- Attention to detail and accuracy to ensure all analysis and reports are error-free.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data to draw meaningful conclusions and facilitate problem-solving
- Exceptional communication skills to liaise with team members, government partners, and grant recipients
- A positive attitude, and an eagerness to learn and grow
- An ability to manage a remote work schedule, and collaborate effectively and respectfully with colleagues across multiple time zones
- Experience with Netsuite ERP
- Must be located in Canada
- Must be eligible to work in Canada

Salary range: $80,000 to $85,000- depending on experience and qualifications – plus benefits
