Dr. Ken Barker Appointed Permanent Scientific Director of the National Cybersecurity Consortium

TORONTO, April 23, 2024 – The National Cybersecurity Consortium (NCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ken Barker as the permanent Scientific Director of the organization.

Dr. Barker has served as the NCC’s Scientific Director in an interim capacity since May of 2023, and we are delighted to announce his permanent appointment in this role. His longstanding involvement and achievements within the Canadian cybersecurity ecosystem have been instrumental in implementing the NCC’s vision to advance cybersecurity innovation and talent development in Canada.

In this role, and in collaboration with the Scientific Operational and Advisory Committee, Dr. Barker will continue overseeing the organization’s scientific initiatives and maintaining its strategic orientation, including the delivery of funding programs, annual conferences, and training activities to meet the needs of the Canadian cybersecurity ecosystem in terms of research and development, commercialization, and training.

As one of the NCC’s original founders, Dr. Barker is well-established within the Canadian cybersecurity ecosystem. He has extensive administrative experience and has served as the Dean of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Science, Director of two different research labs, and is a fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and the Canadian Information Processing Society. His contributions to cybersecurity are significant, having published over 270 peer-reviewed papers on related topics.
